Do turkeys get goosebumps? Or more appropriately, turkey bumps?

taming the Monster... energy drink

I had overtime today. Ugh. But enough about that...

Since it turned out to be quite the warm sunny day, I headed downtown after work and as I meandered about, happened upon a skateboarding event sponsored by Underground, Adidas and Monster, the energy drink. Checked out the scene, the fashion, the people and the cute skateboarders and got a free Monster energy drink for standing around.

The emcee for the event, tried to get the crowd excited as the skaters warmed up by giving out freebies for those who answered his trivia questions correctly. Previous questions included who's the founder of Adidas, name that tune and who's the fastest skateboarder. One question, aimed toward the females in the crowd, was "how many stripes are there on the Adidas shoes?" WTF? He had to dumb it done for the girls because naturally, we wouldn't know anything about music or sports? Dumb ass. But enough about the emcee and his pre-pubescent squeaky voice, it was all about the skaters and their style:

Check out the dude in the hot pink tied-dyed shirt and green sneakers. Awesomeness.

The dude in the white t-shirt, seen above clapping, is a super cutie.

Love the red sneaks on him. It takes the outfit from being ordinary to something interesting.

There were also some kids skateboarding against 20-30 year olds, which I thought was pretty cool and amusing to watch.

Since it was a warm (okay, a sweltering hot) day, I decided a nice cold energy drink would hit the spot and popped it open. I don't usually drink energy drinks, as I prefer water or fruit juice, although once in a blue moon when I'm not in the mood for caffeine, I'll hit up a can of energy. When I first took a sip, I noticed that the liquid was neon yellow in colour (Additives? Special "ingredients" to energize you?) and I started buzzing a wee bit afterward. I don't know if that's a good thing (meaning that I'm awake and energized) or a bad thing (my body is trying to rid itself of toxins), but it tasted like sugary cough syrup. Not a fan. Will remember to stay away from Monsters in the future.

Afterward, as I slowly guzzled down my Monster drink, I wandered over to the shopping mall and this happened to catch my eye:

I don't know if it's the Communications student in me, but I thought this was freakin' brilliant.

getting tipsy on white wine

Last night was spent at an exclusive GAP shopping event where we checked out the new stock while we sipped on sparkling water/white wine, chowed down on yummy hors d'oeuvres and enjoyed a 20% discount on all purchases made that evening.

The talented Patrick Robinson designed GAP's 2008 fall fashions and it looks pretty damn good. Lots of casual looks: layering tops and sweaters, drop-waist dresses, plaid, great coats and jackets, a twist on the classics, all in slate and heathered greys, plummy purples and warm earth tones with an unexpected splash of yellow. I bought myself two pairs of tights and I'm planning to keep an eye on these lovely items:

It has a detachable liner inside and the collar can also be taken off separately. It's perfect for those warm sunny autumn days and will take you well into the fall when the leaves change colours and the days get shorter. Definitely a must for my closet.

Too cute for words. It'll look great with my black cable-knit tights that I bought and my black and white Oxford pumps with side cut-outs or these beauties which will be mine very, very soon:

wetness

It just rained about 5 minutes ago. I love the smell of rain, after a long hot day. It's like the earth is drinking it in and sighing with happiness.

real life

Observation: a scruffy looking guy with day-old stubble gets on the bus and sits in front of me. His left hand: nails are short, neatly trimmed and clean. Right hand: long, manicured, almond-shaped nails that appear to be buffed.

My thoughts: is he getting in touch with his feminine side, but only with one hand? What's wrong with his left hand, too much testosterone there? Nails refuse to grow past a certain length? He only had enough time to trim his nails on one hand? He likes to scratch using his right hand? WTH?

one-sided conversation

Overheard in the lineup to the H&M changing room:

Valley Girl: Like, I'm so hungry. I wanna cut my bangs. I just wanna walk into a salon and like, pray they don't screw it up. Do you think this will look short on me? Like, was I talking too much at dinner? You know, like when it's really silent, I talk more. Like, ohmygod, this is like, skintight! I can't wear this. This is waaay too small for me. Like, I'm SO hungry. We need to go get something to eat after this. Let's go to the food court and, like, get some food.

Me: Like, can someone throw her a dictionary?

beauty is in the eye of the beholder

And in a mess on my bed! I thought it would be cool to do a make-up post, since I do love make-up, or at least the act of buying make-up! This is what I use to make it through the day, one lipgloss at a time:

  1. Shu Uemura eyelash curler - absolutely the best there is!
  2. Cover Girl pressed powder
  3. Lancome Hynose and Virtuose mascara in black
  4. Cover Girl Lashblast Waterproof mascara in Very Black
  5. Clinique High Impact mascara in black - my fave so far, it makes my lashes long and dark and thick without clumping
  6. Rimmel Lash Maxxx in black - this was in my Mavi swag bag. I like how it makes my lashes really long
  7. Almay Intense I-Colour liquid eyeliner in black - has some shimmer in it which makes it nice for special events
  8. MAC kohl eyeliner in Phone Number
  9. Bobbi Brown Oil-Free Even Finish SPF 15 Foundation in Beige 3 - my summer foundation
  10. Laura Mercier Oil-Free Liquid Foundation - I wear this in the winter and also as a concealor
  11. Cover Girl LineExact Liquid Liner - great product, love that it's like a pen and not a brush
  12. Revlon Illuminance Creme Shadow in Pink Petals
  13. Bonne Bell Lipsmacker in Mango
  14. Blistex lipbalm in Cherry with SPF 15
  15. Chapstick in Cherry
  16. MAC eyeshadows in Shroom, Knight Divine, Motif, Vellum, Petalescent, Honey Lust, Nocturnelle and Amber Lights
  17. Stila eyeshadow in Silver
  18. Lancome Colour Design Sensational Effects Eyeshadows in Postive (matte vanilla), Pose (metallic bronze), Designer (metallic moss) and Guest List (shimmery brown-burgundy) - came as a part of a gift with purchase
  19. Lancome Colour Design Sensational Effects Eyeshadows in Daylight (matte white), Off the Rack (metallic pale pink), Ciel du Soir (matte charcoal grey) and Exhibition (sheen lilac) - same dealio as above
  20. Clinique High Impact eyeshadow in Foxy and eyeshadow duo in Rose Wine
  21. Lancome Colour Dose Eyecolour & Base in Burmuda Sunrise
  22. Lancome Juicy Tubes Pop in Fruity Pop
  23. L'Oreal Colour Juice lipgloss in raspberry - I was scared to try red lipgloss, so I got a sheer red to start off
  24. Lancome Juicy Tubes Smoothie in Dreamsicle - this smells delish!
  25. Revlon lipgloss in Glossy Rose and Toast to Shine
  26. Lancome Colour Fever Gloss in Inferno - part of a gift with purchase (again!)
  27. Bobbie Brown lipgloss in Stonewashed Nude
  28. Clinique glosswear in Cabana Crush
  29. MAC lipglass in Magic Spell and Florabundance
  30. Bobbie Brown lipcolour in Brownie Pink
  31. Lancome Le Rouge Absolu in Creme de Marron
  32. Clinique Moisture lipstick in Sweet Violet - I think they discontinued this colour because I can't find it anymore. Boo!
Of course, I don't wear ALL of this at once, I would be gawked at, asked if I had ran away from the circus, or if I'm the illegitimate love child of a clown and a mime. It's just nice to have options for my many different moods.

shopping frenzy

Yep, that's what happens if you pair me and my little sister together and we head downtown on a whim. Ended up buying quite a bit of stuff as you can see in the pictures below:

1. French Connection navy buttoned shift dress for $79.99 (that's my little sis modelling in the changing room). I was humming and hawing over this one because I didn't know if my sis would actually wear this dress. In my mind, I see her wearing it once for a special occasion and then it's banished to the back of the closet, never to see the light of day, or packed away and sent off to the folks at the Salvation Army. In the end, I relented I got the dress for her (she was strapped for cash) and I made her promise to wear this dress more then three times. That might not seem like a lot, but it's a pretty big deal for my sister.

2. French Connection black sheer floral patterned blouse with waist tie for $29.99. My sister didn't like this shirt because she thought the sleeves were a bit iffy, but I really liked the kimono style of it. But, after much debate, it went back onto the sales rack.
3. H&M dress for $49.50. This was so-so on the hanger, but once I got it on in the changing room, I fell in love with it. I think I might wear this to my cousin's wedding, it's got a romantic, prim and proper vibe to it that I think would be really suitable for the occasion, since he's getting married in a church.

After an exhausting morning of shopping, we stopped by Earl's for a quick lunch: Caesar salad, Pappardelle Alfredo and a white peach Bellini for me (okay, I let my sis have a small sip when no one was looking). This was by far the best Caesar I've had in a long time. Topped with a light dusting of shaved Parmesan cheese, the leaves were lightly coated with dressing and finished with a small handful of croutons, it was super yummy! So unlike other places, where the salad is drowning in the dressing and smothered with shredded Parmesan that totally overpowers the wilted lettuce leaves, topped off with rock-hard day-old croutons.

After lunch, it was off to check out the sale at Club Monaco. And oh, what a sale!!!

I got this black blazer with great detailing for $29, previously priced at $199.

These grey jeans were only $9! Marked down from $129! What a STEAL! It's a little loose around the waist and I need to lop off a few inches since they're so long, but I'm hoping that a quick whirl in the dryer will shrink it.

Now it's time to give my wallet a bit of a rest...

highlight of today

This has totally made my day: http://www.cakewrecks.blogspot.com/

It's friggin' hilarious and kinda sad to think that the ability of our nation's bakers to create uplifting, grammatically correct messages on sugary confections for special and important occasions has totally and utterly fallen short of what is to be expected/paid for.

Squinty McSquinterson

It's my new nickname (thanks Andrea!). I had to take out my left contact lens because there was a tear in the centre and it was scraping against my cornea, making it very painful to blink. So, I'm typing away at my desk with one eye closed, looking like a pirate, as I pitifully try to get some work done. Blargh!

mosquito bait

It's been raining all week, but the sunshine came just in time for the long weekend. I was up bright and early Saturday morning in rain boots, picking blueberries at an organic blueberry farm all the way in Richmond with my family. It had rained the previous day, so the blueberry bushes were soaking wet and within minutes, so was I. After 2 hours of searching for big ripe juicy blueberries, it was time to grab some lunch and do some shopping.

The sun had finally come out for the afternoon so we stopped by Steveston where you can buy seafood right off the boats. Haven't been to Steveston in years, so I was glad I brought my camera, so I can take pictures of the catch of the day.

Spent all day Sunday shopping with my little sister, to the point where we were both exhausted and my poor tootsies were suffering, while I was trying desperately not to scratch at my 13 mosquito bites. Yes, THIRTEEN mosquito bites! I don't know if it was from blueberry picking or from last night, but it was brutal! One on my hand, one on my right leg and 11 on my left leg! I spent the day wearing jeans, which was a bad idea because the material kept rubbing against the bites, causing them to itch more and grow bigger. I've smothered my leg in anti-itch cream, but it doesn't seem to be doing any good because they're still itchy! Googling mosquito itch remedies as I type this to see what can be done.

Today, I'm going to head over to Stanley Park to bask in the sunshine, walk along the seawall, take photos and try not to scratch in public. We'll see how that goes.

Strange thing happened at the mall, just as we were leaving:

Dude, hitting on me (in front of my mom and aunt!): "hey, kitty"
Me, totally surprised: "meow?"
